Surah Al-Nas Verse-by-Verse Explanation
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
- “Say: ‘I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind”
- “The King of mankind”
- “The God of mankind”(1-3) This Surah describes Allah the All-three Mighty’s attributes. He sustains people, He is Sovereign, and He is Deserving of Worship. He created everything, owns everything, and commands everything. Anyone seeking sanctuary is commanded to seek refuge in the Lord who possesses these Attributes.4. “From the evil of the whisperer”
(4) Satan tempts individuals to sin by appealing to men’s desire for evil. Only Allah can provide protection from Satan’s evil. “There is a devil with everyone of you,” the Prophet stated, according to a Hadith. “Is there a devil even with you?” the Companions inquired. “Yes, but Allah has granted me protection from him,” the Prophet responded.
When the Prophet was in seclusion (i’tikaf) in the mosque, his wife Safiyyah went to see him, according to Al-Bukhari and Muslim. The Prophet accompanied her to his home as she left. On the way, he encountered two passing Ansar Companions. When they saw him, they picked up their pace. (4) Satan tempts individuals to sin by appealing to men’s desire for evil. Only Allah can provide protection from Satan’s evil. “This is my wife Safiyyah bint Huyay,” she says. They declared, “Insha’Allah! Why are you saying this, O Messenger of Allah?” According to the Prophet, “Satan is like blood within man. I was afraid that he had planted negative thoughts about me in your heads.”
According to a Hadith attributed to Al-Hafidh Abu Ya’la Musily, the Prophet said: “Satan places his touch on man’s heart. If he remembers Allah, he removes his hand; if he forgets Allah, Satan completely takes over his heart. The ‘evil of the whisperer’ is this.”
According to Ahmad ibn Hanbal, the Prophet once rode a mule with a companion riding behind him. The mule fell over. “May Satan perish,” the Companion said suddenly. According to the Prophet, “Please don’t mention that. “I knocked him with my might,” he replied, “and it encourages Satan.” If you say, “In the name of Allah,” he shrinks to the size of a fly.” This demonstrates that remembering Allah aids in defeating Satan, whilst forgetting it increases his power.
According to Ibn ‘Abbas, Satan is waiting for man. When he forgets Allah, he begins to whisper, and when he remembers Allah, he withdraws.
Sulayman explained: “According to legend, Satan bores into the heart of man in both happiness and sadness, deluding him. When a person recalls Allah, he flees.” Ibn ‘Abbas also claims that Satan promotes evil and abandons those who obey him.
- “Who whispers in the breasts of mankind”
- “Of jinn and men.”(5,6) The phrase “Who whispers in mankind’s breasts” might be taken in two ways. One theory is that Satan speaks to persons of the human or jinn races through their chests. Another view is that devils from within the human race and jinn whisper in other people’s chests. Allah says in another place:
“So We assigned an opponent to each Prophet: devils among mankind and jinn, encouraging one another with embellished speech as a deception… ” Al-Qur’an 6:112
Abu Dharr claimed to have visited the Prophet in the mosque and sat with him. “Did you pray?” he inquired. “Offer two rak’ah,” he replied when I answered no. “Abu Dharr, seek refuge against the devils among mortals and jinn,” he added as I sat down after finishing the prayer. “Are there devils among men as well?” I inquired. “Yes,” he said. “O Messenger of Allah, which verse in the Qur’an is the greatest?” I inquired. “The Verse of the Throne – (2:255),” he said. [Ahmad, Imam. Nasa’i, Abu Hatim, and others have also recorded this Hadith].

Then after few days, Hazrat Jabril came there and revealed both surah nas and Surah al Falaq.
