Surah Al-Waqiah

Indeed, the Quran contains a remedy for every problem. However, it is mankind that does not bother looking for a remedy in the Book of Allah.

Surah Al-Waqiah is the 56th surah of the Holy Quran. The meaning of “Al-Waqiah” is “The inevitable”. It is divided into three Rukus or sections. It has a total of 96 verses, 379 words, and 1,756 letters. It was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Mecca; hence it is a Makki (Meccan) Surah. It can be read in Juz 27.

Importance of Reading Surah Al-Waqiah a particular number of times

Many people believe that reciting Surah Al-Waqiah 14/44 times after Fajr prayer can make a person wealthy. However, there is no mention of such a thing in the Quran and Sunnah. One must recite Surah Al-Waqiah to earn the reward as it is part of the holy Quran. Also, we can read it to save ourselves from poverty. Again, no number of times is specified for this purpose.

Lessons In Surah Al Waqiah

It is described in Surah Al-Waqiah how humans will be split into three categories on the Last Day. The forerunners or those who made Allah their top priority will make up one of the groups. The average individuals will make up another group. The final category is made up of those who were misled and refused to accept the reality. According to their respective levels, each person will earn a gift.

It is stated that those who make the effort to serve Allah will be rewarded with woven thrones, youthful servants, drinks, fruits, bird meat, good marriages, and wide eyes.

Those whose efforts were ordinary will be rewarded with Lote trees without thorns, stacked fruits, prolonged shadows, high shades, and more.

However, those who reject the truth will only face this one penalty. Fire, boiling water, a dark smoke, and other things are for them.

In Surah Al-Waqiah, Allah also reveals to us that He has provided for all of our needs. He has given us agriculture, water, fuel, and reproductive fluids as gifts. He also makes reference to His Greatness and dares us to find someone else who can generate these goods if Allah takes them away from us. This Surah also conveys the crucial idea that everything on earth has an end, but not the life after death that Allah SWT will grant.

Benefits Of Reciting Surah Waqiah

1. Surah Al-Waqiah protects against poverty
The verses of Surah Al-Waqiah discuss the favors that Allah SWT has given to the Muslims. It does convey a powerful message that Allah created life and that our benefits belong to him. And receiving the best (done halal) in this life is another of Allah’s blessings. A lot of people think that reading and reciting Surah Al-Waqiah can help them escape poverty. Many narrations emphasize the value of reading Surah Al-Waqiah in addition to the previously listed verses.
Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (R.A) narrates:

“I heard the Prophet (PBUH) saying: ‘whoever read Surah Al-Waqi’ah every night, he will not be struck by poverty forever.’ Ibn Masud said, “I have ordered my daughter to read it every night.” (Abu Ubaid in Fadhail Al Quran)

2. Surah Al-Waqiah rewards the reciter shade of a tree in Jannah.
Abu Huraira (R.A) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Verily, in Paradise, there is a tree in whose shade a rider could travel for one hundred years. Recite the verse if you wish. ‘And shade extended,’ (56:30). The space of one of your bows in Paradise is better than everything over which the sun rises and sets.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

Indeed, reciting Surah Al-Waqiah has benefits for the reader both now and in the Hereafter.

3– Reading and Reciting Surah Al-Waqiah keeps a believer on the right path
Unquestionably, Surah Al-Waqiah is a treasure trove of Hidaayah. It facilitates in understanding and contemplating the Day of Judgment. Additionally, it inspires the reciter to work harder in Allah’s cause in order to see better outcomes on the Day of Judgment.

4– Surah Al-Waqiah can be read and recited to learn about hell and heaven.
Surah Al-Waqiah is filled with lessons that tell us about the rewards of Hereafter. The rewards for a faithful servant of Allah are so great that it makes us forget about the world and its deluded happiness. On the other hand, reflecting on the punishment and Hellfire makes our hearts tremble with fear and it is a great lesson.

5_ Reciting Surah Al-Waqiah helps us in understanding the magnificence of our Lord.
Surah Al-Waqiah is recited to draw us closer to Allah SWT. We become aware of the specifics that are mentioned in this Surah by carefully considering its verses. It also enlightens us to the greatness of our Lord and inspires us to give Him our all.

Poverty VS Extravagance

Being financially unstable or having a weak economy has been a key issue in the modern world. Many people seek out short routes, but regrettably they fall into Shaytan’s trap and take the incorrect route. As a result, according to verse 97 of Surah An-Nahl, Allah said:

“Whoever practices righteousness while a believer—whether a man or a woman—We shall lead him to enjoy a pleasant life, and We shall undoubtedly give him his recompense [in the Hereafter] in accordance with the best of what he practiced.”
People must see the distinction between luxury and poverty, though. Sadly, many today place a lot of emphasis on saving money. For instance, even though someone is eating well, they may yet feel poor because they cannot afford to live a luxury lifestyle.

Best Times to Recite Surah Waqiah

The Surah does not take more than 5 minutes to recite, so it is very easy for the average person to fit it into their routine. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised the Ummah to recite it every night. According to your preference, you can recite it between the prayers of Maghrib and Isha, or after Isha, before you go to bed.

Do I need to recite Surah Waqiah each night?

You should recite the Holy Quran each day because remembering Allah on a regular basis provides countless rewards. In instance, Surah Waqiah is more beneficial when repeated frequently.

It is a reminder that Allah is in control.

As the Surah talks about the Last Day, you are reminded that there is a Higher Power who is in control of your life. Leaving your worries and stresses to Allah relieves you of the burden of an uncertain life.
